Real Weddings | A Dramatic, Elegant October Day
The Peak at Edison is a unique, stunning venue, and Katie and Colin’s October day might have me convinced that there is no better time of year to take advantage of this gem south of the city than the fall. Their fourth-floor, glass-walled space puts you at eye-level with lush, beautiful trees, and just past the tree tops you have an amazing view of the downtown Columbus city skyline that only gets more beautiful as the sun sinks lower. Pair these qualities with the proximity to the airport and the powerful effect of planes coming in for landing overhead, and this elevated industrial black and white space is the perfect location to host a wedding with an urban feel that still has room to breathe.
Katie and Colin got ready for their ceremony in comfortable, spacious suites, and Katie’s elegant strapless satin gown with a statement bow on the back was lovely and flattering. Colin’s dapper all-black suit was the perfect complement to his gorgeous bride’s white dress. Their ceremony took place on the balcony outside the reception hall, with more gorgeous fall foliage as the backdrop to the ceremony altar and the city skyline as guests looked to their right.
Following the heartfelt ceremony, which was officiated by the bride’s uncle, guests entered the indoor bar area to enjoy cocktails and beers brewed next door at Edison Brewing Company (which owns the venue, hence “The Peak at Edison”) and small bites prepared by The Berwick catering. During cocktail hour, the photography team took advantage of the breathtaking golden hour light and captured some beautiful images of the couple and their bridal party against the stunning autumnal backdrop of the surroundings. When the floating wall was removed to allow guests to flow from the cocktail hour space into the main reception area, guests noticed the simple, elegant centerpieces of candles accented by garlands of eucalyptus and smilax provided by Partydreams Columbus. Guest tables were dressed in black linens with white napkins, which echoed the elegance of the venue and the drama of the monochromatic color scheme. As the sunset deepened, the water glasses on the tables reflected the golden light pouring in through the windows and the room seemed to glow.

Following a delicious plated dinner service by The Berwick, a few words from some of Katie and Colin’s favorite people, and a beautiful first dance as husband and wife to “Biblical” by Calum Scott, the newlyweds’ parents surprised them with a high-energy choreographed dance to open the dance floor. Guests packed the dance floor the rest of the evening, only allowing themselves to be pulled away to capture some photos of the skyline once the sun had sunk low enough to really set the horizon on fire and throw a rainbow across the sky. Colin’s grandfather tearing up the dance floor was a sight not to be missed - my team delighted in watching him share his effortless joy and seemingly endless energy with the rest of the revelers.
Katie and Colin’s wedding had an effortless elegance that reflected the couple themselves - confident, comfortable in their skin, and grateful to share a momentous day in their life with the people who matter to them the most.
